The price of oil in June, 2008?

Friday, May 28th, 2010

How high do you thinkl the price of oil will be in June 2008? I have a small bet (cup of tea) with a friend that frequents the local Barnes & Noble Bookstore in the mornings and I wonder what the consensus of opinion is.

solar fan?

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

does anybody know how to build a solarpower fan?

1. Check the power consumption on a typical fan that runs on mains energy.

2. Search online for a solar panel that outputs mains current. It has the inverter and step-up transformers already built in. I’ve seen them online.

3. Ensure the panel outputs the necessary wattage

4. Stick the panel in the sun, plug in the fan. It should work

10points-best answer! Energy sources (comparing)?

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Okay so this is not an opinion question…
which one is the best for the environment to use?
*Hydropower
*solarpower
*coal
*or oil

Please help, this is for a school project! -McCartney
Thank you all for your help!
It is going to be very hard to pick a best answer
I really appreciate all of your help, I am sick at home…Mom is in hospital and I have already done 8 pages for this report and my teacher says this "is not enough"…well anyway, thanks a bunch! (:

solar power because it produces no pollution at all . In addition to this it is freely available & its fullest utilisation will help to control Global Warming . It is going to bring about a revolution in current future . Just wait & watch its powers ! !

This seems like a damned good idea, afterall what else can we use a desert for….what do you think?

James W. Early I would have to disagree the US Congress has no say in what the European Union does in this kind of thing. Green issues hold far more sway in Europe and the Sahara desert IE Muaritania and Morrocco enjoy friendly connections.

It sounds like a good idea, especially if they use solar thermal plants instead of photovoltaic cells since they’re cheaper to produce and maintain. The problem would be distributing the power once it’s produced and like any solar plant, storing it for use during dark hours or cloudy days.

James W, it’s certainly a novel idea to blame the environmental and green movements for our dependence on foreign oil and the oil companies. But just because it’s one possible explanation for events I don’t necessarily think it’s true so I’d have to see some facts first.

I suppose they could use that electricity to produce hydrogen and then turn that into a liquid for transport to the EU or something similar since the power loss along lines that long would be tremendous. They could also grow the strain of algae that directly produces ethanol in the desert if they used a sealed tank so the water didn’t evaporate. The more sunlight the algae receives the more ethanol it will produce so it would be a good way to utilize many undeveloped and mostly uninhabitable parts of the world.

Has solar panels on british houses had a major effect on their electricity bills ?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

i saw this from an advert off currys, install solar panels into your houses ?

but really in british cloudy rainy weather, has anyone saved much money on their electricty in a year by installing the £3000 solar panels,

http://www.currys.co.uk/solarpower/index.html

I looked over the link you provided. I am not from the UK but I have read where they have taxed fuel so much that it is cheaper to go renewable.

As far as the cloudy and rainy weather goes. You have to add wind power to the mix. When there is no sun there is normally wind. So you have to have a little of both. Plus if you are grid tied you can use the grid as a battery backup so to speak.

The same thing will happen here in the USA soon. The cost of fuel will be so high that it will be cheaper to go solar.
